Public Lectures' Center & The Big Lecture Hall
The Big Lecture Hall of the Fob-technical Museum was erected by the project of architects I. P. Mashkov and Z. I. Ivanov in 1907, that took a special and important place in the scientific and public, as well as cultural life of Moscow and Russia. So, in 1909 in the Big Lecture Hall was celebrated Nobel Prize on physiology and medicine awarded to biologist I. I. Metchnikov. Here also G. Y. Sedov shared his plans of an expedition to the North Pole and N. Ye. Joukovsky -his ideas on aeronautics. K. A. Timiryazev, P. N. Lebedev, V. I. Vernadski, N. I). Zelinski, S. A. Tchaplygin - top scientists of the country - delivered their lectures in the Big Lecture Hall.
From the twenties of the past century the Big Lecture Hall turned into the poetic center of Moscow.
Among the participants of the meetings and disputes, held there, were the poets Alexander Block, VaJeri Bryusov, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Sergei Yesenin, Anatoli Lunatcharsky.
In 1947 the Big Lecture Hall became the Central organization for public lectureship
under the Àll-Union society «Znanie» («Knowledge»).
Famous people - Nobel Prize Winners -P. L. Kapitsa. I. E. Tamm, N. C. Basov, Academicians O. Y. Schmidt and A. N. Kolmogorov lectured on topical problems of science there, too. The bright meetings with Niels Bore, Norbert Wiener and a scientist - traveler Tour Hairdal took place in the Big Lecture Hail.
